I'm looking forward to figuring out why ePSXe skips like hell on my octal core Windows 7 machine so I can hopefully record some 60FPS video of these myself. Some of them I've even played and didn't notice a higher framerate. That's a heck of a lot more 60FPS games than I have ever seen discussed on the PS1 before. Youtube doesn't allow for over 30 frames per second so you can't really see the extra speed there. Here is a list with links to Youtube videos.

Genei Tougi Shadow Struggle - September 1996 (Japan)Īctually it was Barone who has been exploring the Playstation 1 library since back in the day and who alerted me recently to the absolute plethora of games that run at 60 frames per second. Now, for some 60 Frames Per Second Playstation 1 goodness. Please show appreciation for your fellow forum time-waster by sticking to common grammar rules. Punctuation and capitalization make reading somebody's thoughts in text format easier to follow for the modern mind. I'm going to be a grammar nazi for a bit before posting responsibly.

PS2 not as much and the only reason why I got it was to fill an empty Dreamcast hole.

If it is a PS series Appreciation Thread, then I can say that I've enjoyed the PS1, PSP, PS3 and PS Vita but not a Sony fanboy. Even though after 2000, I felt the library went downhill with companies releasing shovelware but there were still some good games after that. Both the PS1 and N64 were played quite a bit in my childhood, well before the Dreamcast as a teenager.Īlso the PS1 had a really good library of games back then, it had a lot of racing games (Gran Turismo, TOCA, Colin McRae Rally, Ridge Racer series with Rage Racer being my favourite, WipEout series, RollCage, Motorhead, Need for Speed series, V-Rally 1 & 2, Peak Performance, Micro Machines V3 ), fighting games (Tekken 2 & 3, Dead or Alive, Soul Blade, various Street Fighter ports), RPGs, shoot em ups (R-Type Delta), light gun shooters (Time Crisis, Point Blank), music games (Dancing Stage EuroMix, Music 2000, beatmania), off the wall games (Bishi Bashi Special), arcade ports, action games (Metal Gear Solid, Syphon Filter, Fear Effect, Die Hard Trilogy, Strider 2), FPS (Doom, Quake II, Alien Trilogy), survival horror (Resident Evil series, Silent Hill), platformers (Crash Bandicoot, Spyro, Ape Escape), even some 2D action games (Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, Castlevania Chronicles) and of course GTA. As for the console design, it did get a nickname as the GreyStation however I feel it is a simple design with just an I/O and Open buttons with the disc tray in the middle even though the later PSone actually looks decent for a mini console. Yes I know now, it is very hard to look at the blocky 3D graphics and sometimes they look a bit glitchy but the gameplay is still there to be enjoyed. Got it with Crash Bandicoot 2 that was a great platformer and got the Dual Shock controller after getting Gran Turismo for my birthday way back in 1998. ( this is a discussion about the ps1 mostly but i suppose the ps2 is welcome as well )Īfter realising that there were going to be no more new Mega Drive games, I went straight to the PS1 and had some really good memories of the console.

Including but not limited to the likes ofįear effect ( damn near a real animated movie )ĭie hard trilogy ( i bet this wil get saturn comparisons going )įront mission ( 3 is the only one that was ever released in europe unless you count that abysmal non entity called evolved as a front mission title ) There is texture warping and polygon breaking but there are still a wealth of great games on sony's little box The machien may not have aged all that well the graphics are pixelated and jaggy It was also the machine that introduced jrpgs to the rest fo the world en masse ( and final fantasy to europe at large nintendo seems to think that europeans dont like rpg's )

That pushed gaming tot he mainstream for good or for ill Which is a shame because even though its not everybodies cuppa the ps1 is stilla marvelous machine
